Diptych: Scenes from the Life of Christ, Germany, Thuringia or Saxony, 14th century c. 1350-1375
1984.158
Not on display

The scenes represented on this two-paneled carving are the Raising of Lazarus, the Entry into Jerusalem, the Crucifixion, and the Entombment. The composition of the final scene reveals some knowledge of Byzantine art, which was influential in Thuringia and Saxony. It also reflects similar depictions in German manuscripts of the period.
