What would you do if thousands of nasty soldiers were running at you with swords, axes, war hammers and pikes? What if hundreds of archers were shooting arrows or firing crossbows at you? Or what if even just one knight on horseback were riding toward you with his lance pointed right at your heart? It sure would help to have some armor to protect yourself . . .

A long time ago, hundreds of years back, things like this really happened. Soldiers had all sorts of weapons to use, and knights wore armor to protect themselves in battle. If someone invented a better weapon, a knight needed to get better armor.
