Description

Miniature baskets were made to demonstrate the basket-maker’s virtuoso skill, and these tiny marvels seem to be no exception—the smallest are only five millimeters wide but still patterned. For such fine work, dexterity was required as much for preparation of materials as for weaving.
A squat, woven basket takes the form of a flattened sphere with a narrow, circular opening at its crown. Light tan plant fibers dominate the upper half, transitioning into a dark charcoal base. This darker material ascends in sharp, saw-tooth peaks, creating a jagged horizon against the lighter rim. Fine, vertical ridges from the tightly coiled weave texture the entire surface, adding a rhythmic quality to the rounded, organic vessel.
