Description

Miniature baskets were made to demonstrate the basket-maker’s virtuoso skill, and these tiny marvels seem to be no exception—the smallest are just a few millimeters wide but still patterned. For such fine work, dexterity was required as much for preparation of materials as for weaving.
A small, tan-colored basket shaped into a shallow, rounded rhombus is formed from tight coils. A single band of dark, purple-brown fibers circles the center. Four slender black feathers project from the upper rim, two curving toward our left and two toward our right. The surface features a dense, textured pattern of horizontal ridges created by the weaving process.
