Description

Miniature baskets were made to demonstrate the basket-maker’s virtuoso skill, and these tiny marvels seem to be no exception—the smallest are just a few millimeters wide but still patterned. For such fine work, dexterity was required as much for preparation of materials as for weaving.
A small, round plant material basket curves inward at its circular opening. Light tan vertical stitches create a ribbed texture across the surface. A central band features dark brown, diamond-shaped motifs evenly spaced around the vessel. Composed of several vertical stitches, these shapes repeat around the circumference. The sides swell outward from the top before tapering at the base. The geometric contrast defines its hand-woven, globular form.
