Description

Miniature baskets were made to demonstrate the basket-maker’s virtuoso skill, and these tiny marvels seem to be no exception—the smallest are only five millimeters wide but still patterned. For such fine work, dexterity was required as much for preparation of materials as for weaving.
A miniature woven basket of rounded, squat proportions features horizontal tan coils bound by dark brown diagonal stitches. Interlocking plant fibers create a highly textured, ribbed surface across its bulging sides. A wide opening sits at the top, bordered by a tan rim with a single frayed strand. Directional lighting emphasizes the coarse weave and captures a soft shadow trailing to the right against a neutral grey ground.
