Description

Miniature baskets were made to demonstrate the basket maker’s virtuoso skill; these tiny marvels seem to be no exception—the smallest are just a few millimeters wide but still patterned. Such fine work required dexterity both in weaving and in harvesting and preparing the plant materials used to create the basket.
A miniature, ring-shaped basket is coiled from light tan fibers into a squat, rounded form. The vessel features a small, circular opening centered at the top where the walls curve inward. Tight horizontal layers create a surface of uniform ridges. A section toward the right incorporates dark brown fibers, forming short vertical stripes against the tan base. The object sits on a gray surface, casting a soft shadow.
