Description

Miniature baskets were made to demonstrate the basket-maker’s virtuoso skill, and these tiny marvels seem to be no exception -- the smallest are just a few millimeters wide but still patterned. For such fine work, dexterity was required as much for preparation of materials as for weaving.
A small, rounded basket woven from tan and dark brown plant fibers curves inward toward a central opening. The top portion is formed by light tan fibers. Below the rim, dark brown fibers alternate with tan ones to create short vertical stripes around the body. The thick, ribbed texture of the weave follows the spherical contour of the form.
