A tsuba, a circular iron sword guard, features an openwork design enclosing a vertical oval plate. A central rectangular opening has copper-colored plugs at its top and bottom. Carved cranes with circular wings face inward from the top and bottom. To the left, a gourd-shaped form connects the center to the rim, while a three-lobed shape extends to the right. The dark, textured surface displays a muted brown and gray patina.
