A tsuba, a circular iron sword guard, features a dark openwork design where two large antlers curve to form the rim. A solid central oval plate contains a vertical, wedge-shaped opening. Two butterflies bridge the gap between the rim and the central plate. The textured iron surface is occasionally marked with pitting and specks of reddish-brown oxidation.
