A circular iron sword guard features a dense ring of overlapping chrysanthemums with raised petals and cross-hatched centers. The dark matte metal surrounds a central oval plate containing a vertical opening, lined at the poles with gold-colored metal. Two kidney-shaped openings flank the center. The guard's outer edge follows the undulating, scalloped curves of the petals, creating a textured border around the three central voids.
