Description

Tall slender jars decorated with a wavy line in relief occur toward the end of the Predynastic Period. The netlike motif imitates the kind of rope sling or cradle that was used to carry this type of jar without handles.
A tall, tapered earthenware jar in reddish-brown clay narrows toward a flat base. Dark brown lines crisscross the matte surface in a diamond lattice, bisected by a raised, scalloped ridge encircling the middle. The neck widens before flaring out into a thick, rounded rim. Minor surface wear and a slightly textured finish characterize the vessel, where the dark pattern contrasts against the earthy clay.
