Description

Buff-colored pottery decorated in red paint is characteristic of the later Predynastic period. The spirals and wavy lines on this jar imitate the appearance of more costly vessels made of hard stones.
A marl clay ceramic vessel has a wide, rounded body that tapers to a small base. A flat, circular rim sits atop a small opening, flanked by two looped handles on our left and right shoulders. Reddish-brown spiral patterns in various sizes cover the light tan surface. A jagged, wavy line travels across the middle, connecting two larger spirals.
