An etched portrait on a rectangular copper plate depicts an old man's head, facing slightly right. The metallic surface is a warm, mottled brownish-orange. Fine, dense lines define his furrowed brow, deep-set eyes, and thick mustache and beard. His hair is thin on top and fuller near the ears. Two large diagonal lines are scratched across the entire surface, forming a thin X that cancels the image.
