Did You Know?

This woven hat looks brand new because it was one of the many items the business-savvy chief of Ekibondo had artists and artisans make for the foreigners who passed through his village.
A plant fiber and dye basket features a square base and wide opening. Densely patterned with dark brown and warm tan fibers, the body displays repeating zigzag patterns segmented by thin vertical lines at the corners. Below a braided rim, a wide band of horizontal tan rows wraps the top section. The interior reveals the same geometric weave as the exterior.
