An ivory-colored vertically oriented wool sampler is ornately embroidered with muted green, tan, and blue silk. A scrolling floral border frames scattered motifs, including a central gabled house, birds atop stylized trees, and a lone brown stag. Below, four lines of religious verse are sewn above the maker's final inscription: "Ann Chevell Aged 9 1791." Frayed edges and small holes mark the textile's aged surface.
