Did You Know?

The large size and square shape suggest that this textile would likely have been used as a table cloth.

Description

The only figure represented on this large lace cloth is located in the center. The figure is a woman, shown in profile, carrying a cross, standing on top of a creature or within a vessel shaped like a creature.
A horizontal, off-white linen textile featuring a central grid of needle lace squares. Each square displays distinct floral or geometric patterns, including a figure carrying a cross near the center. A rectangular border of trailing vines encloses the grid, while a delicate, scalloped lace trim with pointed edges finishes the perimeter. The translucent, knotted mesh creates a fine, patterned texture across the entire composition.
