A polished, amber-brown ivory sculpture depicts Shoulao standing tall with a high, bulbous forehead and long beard reaching his chest. He holds a knobby staff in his left hand and a fan in his right. Narrowed eyes and upward-curving lips create a slight smile. Draped, layered robes fall in deep vertical folds. The warm material features visible vertical grain across the figure's surface.
