A vertically oriented tan linen sampler features horizontal rows of alphabets in muted red, blue, and green silk and wool. Two brown-stitched moral verses separate these from symmetrical patterns of golden crowns, animals, and trees framing the name Mary Paul, aged fourteen, and the date April 1752. Intricate floral bands border each section. The fabric's frayed, uneven edges surround the detailed needlework, with small sections missing along the top.
