A vertically oriented, ivory-colored woolen canvas is ornately embroidered with silk thread. Eight lines of dark verse fill the top half above a horizontal geometric band. Symmetrical motifs of birds, flowers, and a squirrel are stitched below in muted greens, browns, and reds. A scrolling floral vine border frames the composition, containing an inner sawtooth edge. The bottom identifies the maker, "Ann Madden Aged 12 Year 1823," flanked by two small baskets.
