Did You Know?

Tsubasa was a courtesan at the Ōgyia in Edo. The title of this print also lists her attendants (kamuro) Ageha and Kochō, but they are not depicted.
A vertical color woodblock print depicts Tsubasa, a woman with light skin tone, kneeling and facing right. She looks back over her shoulder, several long, golden pins fanning from her black hair. She wears a layered kimono with wave and bird patterns in muted brown and tan while holding a folded fan. Columns of Japanese calligraphy appear on either side against a plain background with a scalloped border at the top.
