Description

Although not given to the museum until 1955, this lace jabot was created in 1919 by Mrs. Frank De Maux and entered into the museum’s May Show exhibition that same year. This object was awarded second prize in the lace category.
A cream-colored, vertically long net jabot contrasts with a black background. Fine vertical folds run down the shield-shaped piece, which tapers at the top. Near the center, a large three-dimensional crocheted flower blooms, with leaf-shaped lace and small buds branching outward. A scalloped border of delicate knotted loops frames the entire accessory. The translucent mesh ground is divided by even pleats, mirroring the intricate texture of the central floral motif.
