Did You Know?

Piña is made from fibers of the pineapple plant, first introduced to the Philippines by the Spanish in the sixteenth century.

Description

This blouse front is made of fine piña fiber in plain weave. The panel has an oval neck opening and is embroidered with repeated vertical floral motifs arranged in pairs on each side of the opening. The edges are unfinished, indicating that it was intended to be sewn into a complete baro-camisa garment.
A horizontally long piece of warm cream, semi-transparent cloth features a large oval cutout at the center. Six white floral motifs are embroidered in two symmetrical columns flanking the opening. Each motif depicts a bouquet within a basket, with delicate trailing lines and bows. The thin fabric is characterized by irregular, frayed edges along the border.
