Description

Munakata cut away what he did not want to print. Whatremains in relief--that is, the raised portions of the carved woodblock--is inked and printed. Printing reverses the image.
A dark, carved woodblock depicts a central female figure in profile facing left. She wears an ornate headpiece and raises one hand near her chest. Surrounding her are stylized fish and floral patterns defined by shallow grooves. Large red script, an arrow pointing left, and the name "munekata" are painted over the textured composition.
