Description

The reverse side of this two-sided table screen is a glass painting of architectural landscape in the Chinese style. At the Qing court, imperial commands made possible artistic collaboration and the incorporation of different artistic expressions in a single artwork.
An octagonal enamel and glass screen is painted with a landscape within a gold-toned frame. Craggy blue and green mountains with waterfalls rise beside white houses and bamboo. A figure stands near a bridge over a central stream, while another rows a small boat below. The sky transitions from orange to light blue. An outer border of eight gray and silver panels features scrolling metallic patterns.
