Did You Know?

The design features biblical scenes with Indian mythological characters and Portuguese-costumed figures embroidered in chain stitch.
A square silk and cotton textile features a symmetrical embroidered pattern of dense cream and gold floral scrolls on a dark red ground. A central medallion and four quarter-circle corner panels depict minute figures within buildings and landscapes. Multi-layered decorative borders frame the center, including a wide band of scrolling white vines. Small square panels at the outer corners contain additional figures, and a short fringe trims the perimeter.
