A bronze fibula consists of a thick, rope-like bow arcing in a semi-circle. At one end, the metal winds into a circular coil, from which a thin pin stretches horizontally across the opening to rest in a flat, semi-circular catch-plate. The dark surface is aged with a crusty green patina, accentuating the twisted texture of the bow. The composition juxtaposes the heavy, spiraled form against the delicate, straight line of the pin.
