Description

This is one of three panels of silk netting that would have been cut out and sewn into a gown. This continuous length of fabric would become the gown's proper right front and back panel. The airy fabric is embroidered in gold, white, blues, pinks, and violets with designs of phoenix birds, chrysanthemums, and symbols of longevity.
A vertically long light-blue silk gauze textile features dense embroidery along its right side. Golden phoenixes with elaborate tail feathers sweep through blooming peonies in shades of purple, pink, and white. Small dark-brown medallions are scattered throughout the floral scene. A black patterned border follows an irregular scalloped path, separating the ornate embroidery from the plain silk. A semicircular shape is outlined along the center edge.
