Description

This is one of three panels of silk netting that would have been cut out and sewn into a gown. This continuous length of fabric would become the gown's proper left front and back panel. The airy fabric is embroidered in gold, white, blues, pinks, and violets with designs of phoenix birds, chrysanthemums, and symbols of longevity.
This vertical pale blue silk gauze panel features ornate embroidery concentrated along the left side. Four golden phoenixes with trailing feathers soar among purple, pink, and white blossoms. Gold circles and butterflies are interspersed within the dense floral motifs. The decorative border widens at the base, framed by a dark band. A semi-circular gap interrupts the embroidery midway. The right half remains a shimmering expanse of plain, translucent gauze.
