Description

Probably a pendant (hanging ornament) because of the loop at the top, this plaque may have been hung from a horse's breast plate. It also could be a crusader's badge.
A gilded copper pendant shaped like an eight-lobed flower surrounds a central ring enclosing a green cross layered over a white diagonal cross on dark blue enamel. White leaf shapes fill the outer lobes. Six rounded green stones nestle into the gold-colored rim. Above the pendant fuses a small loop, and below hang two matching loops. Missing enamel and dark oxidation across the surface reveal the underlying metal's age.
