Description

Pendants like these were worn as symbols of protection.
A vertically elongated ivory pendant depicts a human head with a flat rim topping its high forehead. The face sports projecting, almond-shaped eyes and a long nose above slightly parted lips. A dark vertical crack splits the face, running through the right eye to the pointed chin. The smooth, cream-colored surface is marked by fine cracks and brown staining that accentuates the carved lines and features.
