Description

Using unconventional materials—like the horsehair in this sculpture—the pioneering fiber artist Olga de Amaral creates works inspired by the landscape and history of her native Colombia. The woven, interlacing fibers in this sculpture are evocative of adorned human hair, creating a dynamic surface of alternating, vibrant red and blue colors. De Amaral sought to rethink the fiber art medium beyond conventions, working not only with new materials, but on a monumental scale that occupies three-dimensional space.
