Description

The fragment preserves two oval compartments from a design of linked ovals each containing a recumbent ibex. The ibexes are addorsed linking each compartment to the next is a concentric oval device containing in the center a crescent moon. The design in pale blue, tan, and cream on a deep navy blue ground is oriented at right angles to the warp.
A dark grey silk textile fragment is patterned with two large medallions linked by smaller, ringed motifs. Within each medallion, a stylized ram sits facing right, its body adorned with circular patterns and grandly spiraling horns. A partial ring at the left edge suggests a continuing row. Rendered in muted tan and brown tones, the figures stand out against the dark field. The fabric edges are frayed and irregular.
