Description

This fragment preserves rows of tangent roundels, each containing pair of griffins flanking a tree. Borders of the roundels are ornamented with small medallions enclosing animals or a floral device. The interspaces between roundels are filled with geometric floral figures.
A highly fragmented silk textile features repeating dark blue patterns on a light tan background. Large circular medallions enclose pairs of winged creatures with bird-like heads flanking a central flowering plant. Smaller floral rosettes connect these circles in a lampas weave. The fabric is torn into tattered sections with frayed edges and significant missing areas, including a detached square fragment. Ornate, symmetrical motifs create a complex design across the weathered remnants.
