Description

The design consists of aligned large-scale octagons and four-pointed star-shaped interspaces filled with leafy scrolls. Each octagon encloses pairs of regardant gazelles and nonregardant rabbits in mirror image against a foliate background, patterned in white on a light pinkish-tan ground.
A silk lampas weave textile consists of several worn and irregularly shaped fragments. The pieces feature a repeating pattern of large octagons containing white scrollwork on a muted tan ground. Pale green bands intersect to form four-pointed stars between the octagons, which hold smaller circular motifs. The largest fragment on our left shows a wide section of the design, while smaller, tattered pieces sit toward our right.
