Description

This fragment with an inscription was the neck edge of a garment.
An irregularly shaped tan silk textile fragment features a large curved cutout at the top. The material is thin and heavily frayed along all edges. A dark brown rectangular panel is centered, framed by a geometric border with small rectangular protrusions at the lower corners. Two lines of dark, angular Kufic script are embroidered within the panel (see "Inscriptions"). The surrounding fabric is tattered, giving the piece an organic, fragile appearance.
