Description

A very successful silversmith, Edward Wakelin may have been more a businessman than a craftsman or designer.
A wide, oval silver tureen features a polished body resting on four leaf-carved feet. Ornate handles curve outward from the sides, while a rope-like pattern circles the thick rim. An engraved crest sits at the center, flanked by scrolling ornamentation above each leg. From our viewpoint, the reflective exterior contrasts with a smooth, bright interior. Delicate foliate motifs and scrolls detail the body and handles of this horizontal vessel.
