Description

A very successful silversmith, Edward Wakelin may have been more a businessman than a craftsman or designer.
An oval, domed silver tureen cover features a central handle sculpted as a bulbous plant with long, pointed leaves branching across the top. A raised border of repeating gadrooning circles the base of the dome. From our viewpoint, a small crest engraved near the lower edge depicts a seated, crowned animal. The polished silver surface reflects light, highlighting the intricate textures of the cast foliage and the fine engraving.
