Description

Both pendants depict paired figures with tusklike noses. The "tusks" perhaps refer to the upswept nose of the leaf-nosed bat, an agile hunter whose "leaf" helps it to snatch prey from midair. The bat's success as a hunter is part of the reason that some identify such paired figures as warriors. They each hold a paddle-shaped object; the larger pair, in elaborate costumes, also clutches staffs.
A gold pendant depicts two identical figures standing side-by-side. Their faces feature large round eyes, wide mouths, and upturned noses beneath tiered headdresses. Each holds an ax-like blade in their outer hand and a staff in their inner hand. Intricate scrollwork frames their notched necklaces and squared limbs. The pair stands on a horizontal base, their symmetrical forms and weapons creating a detailed silhouette in polished yellow gold.
