Description

Doris Hall and Kálmán Kubinyi, a married couple, were fixtures of the Cleveland art scene for many years-Hall as an enamelist and Kubinyi as a pictorial artist in various media. Toward the end of their careers, after their move to New York, they sometimes produced cooperative works, such as this punch bowl and ladle, which effectively demonstrate 1950s design in its most daring aspect.
An enamel on copper bowl features a wide, flared shape with a ruffled, wavy rim pierced by circular holes. A glossy white interior transitions to a textured, crackled bronze finish along the top edge. The lower exterior walls display a mottled gradient of dark red and purple with metallic gray accents.
