Description

Doris Hall and Kálmán Kubinyi, a married couple, were fixtures of the Cleveland art scene for many years-Hall as an enamelist and Kubinyi as a pictorial artist in various media. Toward the end of their careers, after their move to New York, they sometimes produced cooperative works, such as this punch bowl and ladle, which effectively demonstrate 1950s design in its most daring aspect.
An enamel on copper ladle features a wide, shallow bowl and a long, arching handle. The bowl has an irregular rim and white interior. The handle tapers as it curves away, transitioning from white into patches of gold, blue, and red. At its end, the handle widens with several circular perforations. The entire surface is glossy, accented by textured, exposed areas along the edges.
