Description

The pâte-de-verre technique employed by Trinkley is achieved by combining ground glass and pigments in a mold. When fired, these materials coalesce, and after cooling the mold is removed. The resulting form recalls an ancient Roman cage vessel, made of carved glass, termed a diatretum.
A rounded pâte-de-verre bowl is encased in an intricate openwork lattice of pale blue-green. Interlocking squares frame eight-pointed stars across its granular, frosted exterior. This crystalline shell reveals a solid, translucent pink interior and flat rim. Tiny dark specks are peppered throughout. Light filters through the star-shaped apertures, accentuating the vessel's complex texture and the contrast between the porous outer walls and the smooth, solid inner basin.
