Description

The Czech husband and wife team of Libensky and Brychtova are perhaps the most important sculptors in glass in the second half of the 20th century. Because of their contributions to international expositions, their fame has spread far beyond the Czech Republic.
A spherical, cast glass sculpture sits against a dark gradient, featuring internal geometric structures suspended in a bubble-flecked medium. A dense, grainy band bisects the sphere horizontally, terminating on the right in a translucent prism. Strong side lighting emphasizes the polished curvature, casting a soft shadow to the right and refracting iridescent flecks near the base. This composition contrasts smooth exterior surfaces with the complex textures and angular forms trapped within.
