Description

Bindesboll trained as an architect but is best known as a designer of silver and ceramics. His earliest silver designs were executed by the Copenhagen firm of Michelsen. An artist of considerable originality, Bindesboll was a major figure in the history of modern European design whose work, unfortunately, remains little known outside his native Denmark.
A polished silver vase with a bulbous body and a flared rim is decorated with a collar of raised, rounded shapes. Beneath the neck, a ring of openwork arches pierces the shoulder. A scalloped band separates the midsection from the base, which is encased in large, overlapping raised leaves that wrap around the vessel's tapering form. The reflective surface highlights the contrast between the dark cutouts and the stylized foliate relief.
