Description

Paul Storr was perhaps the most famous and successful English silversmith working in the early 19th century. This fork and spoon were originally part of a larger set. The exceptionally high quality of the metalworking and gilding of these pieces is typical of Storr's work.
A gilt-silver dessert spoon features a shallow oval bowl extending to our left. The tapering handle is intricately carved in relief, hounds running along the stem toward our right. At the wide, rounded end, a kneeling man holds a hound while others surround a fallen stag. The entire surface is a warm, reflective gold color, with a decorative foliate motif joining the bowl and stem.
