Description

Regrettably, a maker's mark does not appear on this piece: thus the factory that made it remains unknown. Nevertheless, its design, castings, and gilding are of fine quality and indicate that it is the product of a group of talented craftsmen who worked in the robust taste of the second quarter of the 19th century.
A gilt bronze centerpiece features a wide basin filled with multicolored enamel flowers and green leaves on dark stems. The ornate vessel sits atop a stand of symmetrical scrolls with a central hanging bud. Below, a garland of fruit and foliage drapes between two curved supports. The object rests on a wide rectangular base decorated with intricate, raised carvings of shells and leaves. Bright gilding covers the textured surface throughout.
