Description

New Era was one of Heisey’s most modern patterns. Introduced in 1934 and made as a full line until 1941, the combination of rectangles and circles was in keeping with art deco taste. Many of the surface patterns applied to this shape, such as the fish on the plate, were reflective of the style and the love of exotic imagery popular in the 1930s.
A clear glass dish set features three stacked levels: a large rectangular base, a smaller rectangle, and a circular central dish. Opaque white wavy lines and vertical dot patterns flank the rectangular surfaces. The circular center contains an intricate motif of overlapping curves and sharp angles suggesting abstract wings. The smooth, transparent glass creates a sharp contrast with the frosted, textured patterns, while a bold shadow mirrors the tiered geometric composition on the surface below.
