Description

New Era was one of Heisey’s most modern patterns. Introduced in 1934 and made as a full line until 1941, the combination of rectangles and circles was in keeping with art deco taste. Many of the surface patterns applied to this shape, such as the fish on the plate, were reflective of the style and the love of exotic imagery popular in the 1930s.
A horizontal composition features a clear glass saucer centered in the lower half against a neutral gray background. The saucer consists of a rectangular frame with rounded corners enclosing a circular depression of several concentric, descending rings. Light catches the transparent edges, creating bright highlights, while a sharp shadow beneath mirrors its geometric silhouette. This arrangement emphasizes the contrast between the smooth, flat border and the recessed, rhythmic patterns of the glass.
