Description

This bound pudu—a small reddish deer indigenous to the Andes—lies atop a chamber with fanged supernatural heads incised on the sides. The animal may represent a sacrificial offering.
A dark brown ceramic vessel depicts a deer lying on its side atop a circular base decorated with incised stylized figures. The animal has a textured, pitted body, large rounded ears, and circular eyes. A smooth, arching stirrup handle rises from its back, topped by a vertical spout with a flared rim. The deer's head tilts toward the viewer, and its small hooves rest against the base.
