Description

This figure featuring three monkeys was designed by the Danish ceramicist Ingeborg Plockross-Iminger. The figure is displayed with a French silver mount that references Japonisme and Art Nouveau styles that were popular at the end of the 1800s and experienced a resurgence in the 1920s because of increased importation of Japanese goods to the West.
A porcelain and silver-gilt sculpture depicts three monkeys grouped on a circular base. The monkeys have smooth, grayish-white surfaces and closed eyes. To our left, one monkey rests its head against the central figure, who faces our right. A third monkey sits behind them. The dark metallic base is adorned with fan-shaped palm fronds and pointed leaves with small round fruit, forming a textured foundation for the huddled figures.
